That night at Tool…

It’s been a pretty crappy February….  There is no doubt about that.  The extreme highs of an awesome conference and seeing friends from overseas was quickly replaced by the tragic events I detailed in my last blog. But this Friday just gone, I allowed myself a moment away from all of this to catch up with two very special friends and attend the Tool concert in Auckland. This was a gig planed months ago (the tickets for this show sold out within minutes of the pre-sale opening) and I was thinking that given what’s happened recently, I shouldn’t attend this…

Introducing thenewnumber2.com

Wow, A lot has happened since my last post on this site… Winter has come and gone, as has most of 2019, and what a year it’s been! I’ve moved to a new job, I was awarded the Windows Insider MVP award and I was SUPER fortunate to have been selected to speak at Microsoft Ignite 2019 in Orlando not once, but FOUR times.  There’s a neat write up on my work’s website here, and I’ll be doing my own recap soon. So yes, a lot of change. I finally got myself organized this past weekend and purchased my very…

Microsoft Ignite The Tour – ANZAC Edition

The Microsoft Ignite tour rolls into Sydney this week. Not only am I fortunate to attend, but like in Orlando in 2018, I am going to be sharing the stage not once, but twice with the Chief Ninja Cat herself – Dona Sarkar. Both sessions are scheduled for Thursday, are back to back, and in the last two time slots of the conference.  I’m expecting some epic movement between rooms, not to mention some fast footwork as my flight home to New Zealand leaves not long after. The first session is an important one for me.  Along with Dona, two…

Let’s not forget about Office!

Yesterday, I wrote about the one-year countdown to the end of support for Windows 7. End of Life of support is an important subject for many organisations and I’ve had some great comments made on LinkedIn about my Windows 7 End of Life Blog. In many organisations, Windows often goes hand in hand with Office and often being deployed together as part of a desktop refresh project.  The version of office frequently ties in with the version of Windows, for example – Windows 7 would be deployed with Office 2010 ProPlus, Windows 8.1 with Office 2013 ProPlus and Windows 10…

Windows 7 – One Year to go!

Today marks one year to the day until Windows 7 goes end of life. In an ideal world, most of us would like to be around “90% done upgrading”, but as previous experience shows this often isn’t the case.  Be honest, how long did it take before you switched off your last Windows XP device… 2015, 2016, or was it 2017 when WannaCry made you think that it’s a really bad idea (not to mention dangerous) to keep these devices running. Even with time running out, there are several options available and It really depends on where you are at…

Reflecting on 2018

Well, 2018 has been consigned to the history books and as I sit here recovering from another Christmas/New Years in the New Zealand summer with the Cricket on the radio, I find myself thinking of the year that has past. On the last working day of 2018, I walked past my first desk (I’ve had three this year for anyone counting). On the windows was a 2018 ‘to do’ list, a list that to be honest, I’d forgotten about (I have moved desks three times as well as two floors). The list had several tasks that I wanted to achieve…
